SAND EROSION

GRAHAM’S BEACH WHARF LEGAL DIFFICULTIES ARISE The erosion of the shore line in the Manukau Harbour has brought about an Interesting legal position between the Auckland Harbour Board and the Franklin County Council. The action of the sea is gradually bringing hack the shore line in the vicinity of Graham’s each, with the result that the wharf has on several occasions been isolated from the receding shoreline, and an extension has been necessary. The council has communicated with the Auckland Harbour Board on the matter, and the two bodies are finding that the problem of sand erosion is presenting legal difficulties. The secretary of the hoard has written to the council as follows: — ;i I am directed by the superintendent and engineer to inform you that there are legal complications and difficulties which necessitate great care being taken in arriving at a proper decision on this matter. The hoard’s solicitors are being consulted, and the possibility of effective action will be explored carefully when their opinion lias been obtained.” At Monday’s meeting of the council the clerk was asked to communicate with the board further in the matter.
