OCTOBER MEETING HELD
■ The October meeting of the Papaj kUra Women’s Institute was held in : the Methodist, hall on Thursday after- ! noon. The president. Mrs V. Houghton. who presided over a slightly i smaller attendance than usual, extend- ! ed a hearty welcome to the visitors.
' Invitations were received from the j Ramarama institute and the Karaka I women’s division to attend flower j show's this month. ; The roll call w'as 1 “Mistakes m i housekeeping.” Evidently most of
I the members are good housekeepers ; as very few mistakes were admitted, i The monthly competitions resulted: I Best jar of marmalade. Mrs Croskery ! 1: plate of scones, Mrs Middleton 1. j Miss E. M. Piggott of Buckland, adI dressed the members on Institute matj ters. and also gave a demonstration j on fret work and how to make toys. A vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Piggott for her interesting talk. Mrs Houghton announced that two demonstrations dressmaking and Italian quilting —would be given at the . next sewing circle. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs R. East who has recently suffered a bereavement. Two new members were enrolled.
The hostesses were Mesdames Bartells, Middleton. Langford, Parris and Smeed.
