LAWN TENNIS.

PATUNVAHOE CLUB.

SEASON OPENED. The opening of the Patumahoe Tennis Club’s season took place on Saturday in the presence of a large number of members and visitors.

The president, Mr T. A. Klipsch, complimented the club on having a fine afternoon, for usually bad luck dogged the 13th club to open. The past season had been a very successful one. As the result of a number of dances, over £2O was raised toward improving the courts. Mr J. A. Sparks spoke on association matters. The first ball was served by Mrs Klipsch.

THE SUBURBAN CLUB. OPENING POSTPONED. Owing to the death of its patron, Mr E. L. Roose, the opening of the Suburban Tennis Club, arranged for Saturday last, was postponed until Saturday next.

OTAUA CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otaua Tennis Club was held last week, there being a good attendance. The balance sheet showed a credit of over £35.

The following officers were elected; President, Mrs A. H. McDonald: vice-president, Mr I. N. Porter: secretary, Mr C. L. Naylor: delegates to Franklin Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs W. Compton and C. L. Naylor; management committee, Misses T. Deed, E. Hope, G. McDonald, J. Gurney. G. Fraser, Messrs W. Gurney, W. Compton, M. Storey, K. and T. Holmes and K. Hayes.

The meeting decided on an extensive programme for improving the courts. The three playing courts are to be retarred, while the southern fence is to be moved nearer the pavilion to give a longer run-back. It was also decided to plant wattles along the southern boundary. The pavilion is to be painted and a new tank purchased.

It was decided to again affiliate with the Franklin Tennis Association. The enthusiasm displayed augurs well for the coming season, . a big membership being expected.
