Bowling in the Franklin District.

THE BUCKLAND CLUB.

GREEN OFFICIALLY OPENED.

• CEREMONY ON SATURDAY. Fine weather prevailed on Saturday for the official opening of the Buckland howling and croquet clubs’ lawns. There was a good muster of local and visiting bowlers, including the president of the Auckland centre, Air A. E. Whitten, a past-president of the. centre, Air S. Coldicutt, and representatives of the Pukekohe, Tuakau, Waiuku and P'atumahoe clubs.

In his welcome the president, Mr G. Hendry, said he hoped all would spend an enjoyable afternoon. He congratulated Air Robert Wright and Mr Griffin on the excellent condition of the lawns. Mr Hendry said it was a labour of love as far as Mr Wright was concerned, and that he was always working for the betterment of the lawns. «

Mr Whitten, who was accompanied by Mr Coldicutt, also congratulated Buckland on its wonderful improvements. He said he had seen the lawns in the making 14 years agG, and had also been present on various occasions since then. He wished the club every success for the season.

Mr Hendry asked Mrs King, president of the croquet club, to play the first croquet ball, and declared the croquet lawns open. Mrs Hendry was asked to throw the jack and first bowl which she did amidst applause, and Mr Henry declared the bowling green open for the 1936-37 season. Games played resulted as follows: Brown, Finch, Butcher, ATcPherson, 24, v. Campbell, Wylie, Hart, Payne, 18; Webb, Jeffries, Hewitt, W. Smeed. 23, v. Afears, Diggle, C. Smeed, N. Jamieson, 11; C. Deed, Lees, Wiggins, Hendry, 17, v. Griffin. Patton, Coldicutt, Whitten, 18; Cooper, Carter, D. Deed, Harrison, Danes, Pirret, 24; Stevens, Carter, Bree, Arkle, 22, v. L. Steele, Richards. Brownlie, A. Steele, 17. The croquet games resulted in Airs Bullock winning the A grade trophy and Airs Shaw of Clevedon the B grade.

The hidden number prize for the A grade went to Aliss Baird of Clevedon, and for the B grade to Mrs Shaw. Airs Hendry, wife of the president, provided a dainty afternoon tea, which was much appreciated.

THE PUKEKOHE CLUB. Results of an ordinary draw played by members of the Pukekohe Bowling club on Saturday are: Dale, Pollock, Crosbie, Blake, 19, v. Diggle, Taylor, Ingram, Grandison, 15; Bloxham, Andrew, Proude, Harvey, 23, v. Wright Brown, Lawrie, Jamieson, 15: Ferguson, Walsham, Haslam, 24. v. Neil. Seed, Perkins, 18.
