Wanton Destruction at the Showgrounds.
MANY WINDOWS BROKEN. STONES AND PEA RIFLE BULLETS. POLICE ASSISTANCE SOUGHT. v. ‘’This is indeed a scandalous stale of affairs and a blot on society,” marked Mr R. C. Clark at the meet- | ing of the executive of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society on Friday evening, when referring to the work of someone, in smashing windows in the buildings at the showgrounds. “We cannot take this sitting down, and we will have to take drastic action. It is a definite reflection on society generally and when property is ravaged like this we should look to the police for a greater measure of protection,” added Mr Clark. It was pointed out that a great deal . of the damage was caused by .22 pea* rifle bullets and stones. Irresponsible youths and small boys frequently ited the showgrounds and very often had been ordered off. Last year 32 broken panes of glass had been replaced, but it was considered more than 32 required replacing this year. Finally it was decided to repair the damage, to invoke police protection, to offer a. reward of £5 for information leading to the conviction of culprits and to prosecute unauthorised persons found trespassing on the pro-
perty. Members of the executive were asked to assist in bringing wrongdoers to book.
