MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
PLOUGHING MATCH SUGGESTED.
CONSIDERATION DEFERRED. The executive of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society met on Friday evening when there were present: Messrs .T. Fulton (president), W. J. D. Sharp, C. E. Walter, L. C. Logan. A. J. Raynes, P. T. Field, G. R. Fulton, W. M. Reynolds, E. M. Wright," F. .T. Morrow, W. Collie, R. C. Clark, G. F. Mclnnes, R. Ewing, D. R. Hamilton, R. Schlaepfer, A. Best, J. Reynolds and G. R. Basham (secretary).
Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. G. Morris. A. .T. Harris and W. Rowley. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, in reply to representations*, stated they regretted they w r ere unable to alter the date of a sale fixed for Thursday February 18, to Tuesday, February 16. They pointed out that the sale would in no w*ay interfere with the society’s show which opens on February 19. An Auckland implement firm offered trophies for the annual show and also trophies for a ploughing match if same could be arranged.—The trophies were accepted with thanks. Regarding the ploughing match memners considered it could not he held during the show, while they also douht.ed whether sufficient entries vyould be received to make it attractive. Further consideration was deferred in view of a suggestion that a ploughing match could be arranged in.conjunction with a field day which is to take place later. Mr R. G. Clark offered the use of a paddock for the match. A sub-committee comprising Messrs J. Fulton, D. R. Hamilton and the secretary was asked to obtain details of the cost of improving the facilities at the publican’s booth to comply with’* the requirements of the health inspector.
The secretary reported that the revising committee had completed its task of revising the conditions of the court competition. . In future articles to be exhibited in The court would he specified. The primary schools' section had also been revised, the prizemoney remaining the same as last year.
Accounts amounting to £3B 4s 8d were passed for payment. The secretary in a report on the society’s finances said the position was between £7O and £BO better than it > was this time last year.
With a view to effecting repairs to the plant and improving conditions generally at the society’s property, meeting will he held at the showgrounds on October. 29.
Two new members, Mr W. G. Rich, Buckland, and Messrs Aaiburys, Limited. Auckland, were elated.
