Mrs Matuschka of Helvetia road, continues to make steady improvement toward recovery.

Mr H. Puckridge who met with a serious accident on Monday last is still lying seriously ill in Auckland hospital. His condition, however, showed slight improvement yesterday.

Mr T. Flavell of MVnukau road, who entered Auckland hospital on Friday morning returned to his home yester- j day. Mr Flavell’s condition is much j improved, hut he has been ordered a long rest. '

Following an illness of several weeks’ duration, the death occurred in the Auckland hospital on Saturday of Mr Elijah Leonard Roose, a wellknown Pukekohe farmer. Mr Roose was the only son of pioneer settlers, the late Mr and Mrs Elijah Roose. The funeral took place at the Pukekohe cemetery this afternoon.

Prior 1,0 the commencement of the ordinary business at Friday night's meeting of the executive of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society, motions of sympathy with the relatives of the. late Mr A. McNicol of Clevedon, Mrs F. A. TTosking and Mrs T. Flavell, both of Pukekohe, were passed in silence. In moving the motion, the president, Mr Joseph Fulton, said that Mr McNicol was a well-known breeder and exhibitor of Clydesdale horses; Mrs Ilosking took an interest in all matters appertaining to the welfare of the district, while Mrs Flavell was the daughter of a pioneer of the district. Her father, the late Mr David Fullerton, was the owner of that noted entire, Blair Athol, which

was awarded a first prize at the first show held by the society over 50 years ago.
