OCTOBER MEETING HELD. FURTHER LOAN OF £IO,OOO. NECESSARY FOR EXTENSIONS. The October meeting of the Franklin Electric-power Board was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs .J. Dean (chairman), 11. Wilcox, G. Arrowsrnith, L. W. Keals, .I Patterson, C. K. Lawrie, J. B. McKinney, W. Hosking, and JI. P. Garland, together with the engineer (Mr L. G. Sharp) and the secretary (Mr S. P. Day). The No. 2 District Highways Council advised that it had sold Hie old portion of the Great Soutli road at Ramarum (which bad been replaced by the deviation) with a condition that the Franklin Power Board's polos wen', to remain until the board decided to remove them to the new road. Mr R. Turner. Orua Bay, forwarded a petition signed by settlers interested, asking for a line to be erected between Awliilu Gully and Orua Bay. The engineer was asked to have a canvass of the district made to ascertain ille possible load offering. A canvass is also to be made of the Graham’s Beach district where it was stated a payable load was offering.

Formal resolutions were passed to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to the raising of an additional £IO,OOO of the £29.000 loan, for line extensions in the board’s area.

An application by the Pukekohe Borough Council for the installation of two street lights in Railway road, was granted. The board decided to donate an electric toaster to the Franklin A. and P. Society as a prize for the winner of a cooking competition—the cooking to be done in an electric stove —at the annual show in February next. Accounts totalling £7079 19s 2d were passed for payment.

The engineer was given authority to call tenders for the replacement of the car used hy Mr E. Slevin, and a van: the car for replacement in December and the van in January. Both vehicles had been in use since 1929 and each had exceeded 107,000 miles.
