Te Akau North Rabbit Board Affairs.

THE DECEMBER MEETING. MIXING OF POISON. The monthly'" meeting of Te Akau North Babbit hoard was held at, Tuakau on Monday. There were present : Messrs P. 11. Sutton (chairman), K. H. Nolan, K. L. Caldwell, E. 13. jsaker, G. Cole-Baker, T. B. Insoll (clerk), G. F. Souness (inspector), and A. \V. Christie (Government stock inspector). The question ol' mixing phosphorised pollard was discussed. Inspector Souness stated that if the additional area was brought in orders would he coming in immediately. It was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the inspector to obtain labour to mix the poison. The clerk was authorised to obtain quotations for tins suitable for containing poison.

In reply to a letter from an Auckland firm, which is at present making the new poison mixing machine, the clerk was asked to state that the board would instal all electric fittings and a motor in the depot.

The inspector, in his report, stated: “Since presenting my last report, in which I stated that breeding had not been checked as it should have been earlier in the season, the tally of rabbit, scalps for November will indicate that on many properties owners had not been' doing their best in the past, I am pleased to report that quite a few ratepayers are keeping their rabbitters on and are paying a bonus themselves now that the borad cannot, continue bonus payments. Having heard that rabbit scalps have been brought into the boards’ district from properties adjoining the boundary 1 have, so far, been unable to trace these reports although I am of the opinion, that, in a few cases it is most likely the board is paying bonus money for rabbits caught outside of its district. The men employed poisoning properties owned by the State Advances Department have now completed the work but rabbitters, employed by the board on Native at Port Waikato, report poor results. “As the board.is likely to be much larger in the near future a start should be made at an early date to make phosphorised pollard as the whole district will require a general pollard poisoning early in the year.”
