WHANGARATA TO POKENO. Advice from the district engineer of the Public Works Department, Auckland. Rial the subsidy of £OOO (£.l for £1 basis), included ' in the current year's applications, was likely to be included on- the main highways estimates. was received by the Franklin County Council on Wednesday. . “This, subsidy applies to the reconditioning. metalling and rolling of the new section of highway between Whangarata and the Great South Road at Pokcno. estimated to cost £1200,” reported the engineer, Mr J F. McArthur. “As regards metalling, the estimate provides only for crushing, hauling and rolling. Before submitting proposals. I would he pleased to know if your council consider that funds will he available to put the workin hand during the coming season.” It was decided to submit proposals for the work.
