PROGRESS OF PAPATOETOE

WORK OF BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY The Papatoetoe Progressive and Beautifying' Society has begun its activities by planting trees in the vicinty of the station on a. strip of land about a quarter of a mile long. The trees are Oriental planes and oaks* and these have been protected by a jarrah fence for half distance and by square guards fc*r the other half. The first tree was planted by Mrs R. P. Andrew, and the work was then carried, out by a band qf voluntary workers who were served with afternoon tea by an efficient ladies’ committee. It is hoped, shortly to level off the land adjoining the railway line and plant grass there, after which a comprehensive scheme of iml pro vein ent will receive .attention. Most of the important matters tha!t concern the welfare of the district are receiving the attention of the society and the Town Board is taking a sympathetic interest, Papatoetoe’s natural advantages and attracjtions will no doubt now be exploited to the fullest extent and the entrance to the suburb be made fully worthy of the sigh'te that it offers.
