RESIDENTS OPPOSE PROPOSED SCHOOL SITE AT TAIERI MOUTH
Opposition to the proposed site for a new school to be erected in , tile Taieri Mouth district was voiced by a imputation of residents, which waited on the Otago Education Board this morning. Residents of Taieri Beach and Taieri Mouth objected to the site proposed by the board, on the grounds of lack of room for the school, residence, and playground, and that it was unhealthy, being on swampy ground and surrounded by trees. It was, in fact, no better than the site of the present school, said the ' spokesman of the deputation (Mr A. Trounson. He produced a petition from the residents of the district, which, he said, constituted almost a block vote. There was a suitable site within half a mile of that proposed by the board. There was ample room for expansion, and the owner was willing, to sell. The deputation was thanked by the chairman (Mr J. Ira Fraser), who said the board would'consider its representations. After a discussion after the_ withdrawal of the deputation, it was agreed to write to the School Commit tee to inquire if the site described, by the deputation was available and if it approved of the area.
