PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION FORMED BY GOLFERS
At a meeting held in Dunedin this week an Otago Provincial Golf Association was formed to promote the interests of golfers in the province, to arrange matches, and control tours. The initiative in tne formation of the association was taken by the New Zealand Golf Council, and the meeting at which the decision was made was attended by delegates from a number of Otago clubs. Mr D. C. Bennie (St. Clair) presided. The following Management Committee was elected to hold office for the ensuing 12 months:—Messrs A. H. Boyd, J. H. Meek (Otago), Bennie, H. S. Ross (St. Clair), G. Mora (Chisholm Park) S. Outhbertson (Oamaru), 11. M. Rutherford (Milton), and A. Mitchell (Taieri). The Central Otago Amateur Golf Association stated that it wished to ; retain its identity, but the hope was expressed by delegates that clubs in the Central Otago area would in due course join the provincial association. EXHIBITION GAME. In an exhibition game on Balmacewen yesterday to raise funds to send a team of student golfers to an interuniversity tournament at Wellington, T. W. Wight and A. H. Boyd beat A. Gibbs and iB. V. Wright, 1 up. Boyd, who scored 2s at the third and fourth holes, had the best round with a 72. WOMEN’S MATCHES. The final match of the Belleknowes ladies’ knock-out competition will be played between Miss Kinaston and Miss Carroll. Last Saturday morning a combined match was played by the business and mid-week sections of the club. Trophies were won by Mrs Gibson and Miss C. Lee. Tuesday’s medal match resulted in a tie between Miss V. Rhodes and Mrs G. Dunn. Miss Rhodes won on the count back.
