PERSONAL. Before leaving Balclutha for Greymouth where he has been transferred on promotion, Mr A. Ramage, who has been on the railway’ staff for 6ome years, was entertained by the members of the Balclutha Cricket Club andl the railway staff. He was presented with a fountain pen from the cricketers, ' and received a monetary gift from his railway, colleagues. At the annual meeting of the bowling club best wishes were extended for his future welfare. Mr M. H. Nelson, who has been district agent for the Public Trust office in Balclutha for some time, has been transferred to Wellington on promotion. During his residence in Balclutha Mr Nelson was an active member of the golf club and was secretary of the Clutha branch of the Homeservicemen’s Association. His successor here will be Mr B. N. Taylor, of Dunedin. On Saturday night residents of Helensbrook, Milton. entertained Private T. R. Hood, who recently returned home with the J-Force. He was the recipient of a monetary gift. The final round! for the Thompson Cutp was played! at Balclutha on Saturday under ideal conditions. The result was a tie between M. R. Nelson and S. Mathewson, whose aggregate for the three rounds was 208. Other scorers were: J. Cameron 210, J. L. Guest 213, R. J. Guest 216, J. Clark 217, G. Ashcroft 217, R. Reid 218. At the week-end Balclutha men played a match with Balmacewen at Dunedin, the result being a win for the home team. J. Clark was the only Balqlutha player to secure a win, when lie defeated A. Boyd, the Otago champion, 1 up. W. Sceats and E. Barnett both finished “all square” in their games. Balclutha ladies played a Stableford match on Saturday, the winner being Mrs Aitken, with the excellent score of 21—15—36. Milton Club played the second round of the President’s Trophy on Saturday. BASKETBALLMatches played at Milton on Saturday resulted: School B 16, Milton 13; Tokoiti 12, St. Mary’s 10. SCHOOL RUGBY. On Saturday morning teams from Milton district primary'school played a seven-a-side tournament. St. Joseph’s, Toko. B, Tokoiti, and Mil-burn-Lovell’s Flat -played off in the semi-finals, the winners being Tokoiti and St. Joseph’s. In the final Tokoiti beat St. Joseph’s by three points to nil. On Wednesday a teiim from the country schools will play the annual match with Toko. D.H.S.. team.
