Lord Montgomery Praises Soldiers of Australia

BRISBANE, July 16, “ We need have no fear of the future of our British Empire as long as this great Commonwealth of Australia continues to raiseVsuch men as I have met, seen* and talked to in my short stay here,” -said Lord Montgomery in a farewell message to the people of .Australia.:, . -' - ' “ 1 have traversed your country from Darwin to Hobart, and from Perth to Sydney and Brisbane. One of my objects in visiting Australia was to see in their home surroundings the men who fought with me on the battlefields of Africa, to meet the other men of your country .-who did battle against the Japanese in the Pacific, to see something of your people, and get atmosphere in which your special problems are forming’— 'to capture, if 1 could, the spirit of Australia. “I have seen a great country with immense possibilities, in whose soil can be grown of mined practically everything that is necessary to<the every-day life of a great people, “ I have seen that this country produces people, of great courage, of physical strength, and of distinctive personality, I have always maintained that the true and ultimate Strength of a nation lies in its people, their . virility and their capacity to work.”
