Salvation Army Unit Takes Gospel to Country
In company with all other religious bodies, the Salvation Army is alive to the peculiar challenge of the day, and in an endeavour to meet that challenge, and with a view to finding a solution to some of the problems which face the organised church.. a caravan hag been constructed which will he used to take the Gospel to people in Otago and Southland who, because of distance and other circumstances, are upable to attend oluiroh. The uqit i« a reconverted military caravan! used during the war for medical purposes. It has been refitted in Dunedin, and it contains full living accommodation for two persona.’ Beds, wardrobes, cool range,, full cupboard conveniences, and a stainless-steel sink bench have beep installed in the caravan. In addition, the unit has been fitted with an amplifying set, to provide for the broadcast ,of gramophone records. The unit has its own lighting arrangements, and a microphone foi relaying speeches. Provision also has been made for the use of a 16 tn-ni. him projector, which will be used to show films of educational value as well as Gospel films to further the evangelical mission. The caravan lias been finished inside in pastel green, and the exterior is cream in colour. FIRST OF ITS KIND. The mobile unit is the first of its kind in New Zealand to be used by tfae {salvation Army. An additional
two will lie used in Maori districts on preciate this move forward hy an the east coast of the North Island and organisation which has indicated ;its in North Auckland. The Otago unit desire to be at the forefront m taking, will operate under the administration the message of the Gospel to people of the divisional commander, Major everywhere. The unit will bo on view Albert Chandler. A public dedication in the streets of the pity next Friday, service will shortlv be the occasion of the Salvation Army It is felt that'the public will ap- annual street day.
