CONFERENCE ON EUROPE’S RECONSTRUCTION READY FOR PLENARY SESSION

(Itec. 1 p.m:) PARIS, July 14. X The Steering Committee of the conference on European economic ' co-operation will recommend the' following composition of committees to the full plenary session tomorrow Executive Committee of Co-opera-tiou: Britain, France, Italy, Norway, Holland. Food and Agriculture: Denmark. France, Greece, Eire, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Britain. iron and Steel: France, Luxembourg, Norway, Britain, Turkey, Transport: Belgium, France, Norway, Portugal, Britain, Switzerland, Turkey. Fuel and Power: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Britain, Sweden, Switzerland. Representatives of all the 16 nations at the conference are on the Steering Committee; therefore it is a foregone conclusion that the plenary session will adopt the committee’s report. The limitation of the Executive Committee of Co-operation to five members is for reasons of speed and efficiency in co-ordinating the technical committees’ work. The composition the four technical committees is based primarily on the preponderant interests of individual countries •in the main economic divisions. It is expected that the political delegates who do not wish to remain for the next phase of the conference will bo free to return home after the plenary session to-morrow. Earlier, the Steering Committee proposed that the conference’s Committee of Co-operation should be open to all member States, and, in addition, to representatives ot other European States. The Freneh_ delegate, M. Herve Alpliand, explained, that the committee wishes to leave open the door for all countries. He said the Steering Committee had made important modifications to the Anglo-French proposals sent out with the invitations. The Steering Committee’s proposal to constitute the Committee of Co-operation so that other States could join was the result of a suggestion from Turkey.
