Mr R. Boswell, railway transport officer for the Auckland district, has been appointed district traffic manager of railways at Auckland to succeed Mr \V. T. Pocknall, who retired yesterday after 40 years’ service. Mr Pocknall has been traffic manager at Auckland for the last 12 months. The new traffic manager has had 37 years’ experience, mostly in the South Island. He went to Auckland last March from Invercargill, where he was traffic officer.

A Melbourne P.A. cable message states that a New Zealander, Mr Conrad Charlton,'has been appointed Victorian manager of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. _ Mr Charlton has been West Australian manager of the A.B.C. since 1936._ Born in Timarii, he came to Australia 18 years ago, and was on the stage before joining the A.B.C. Dr John. Baillie will represent the Church. of, Scotland at the centennial celebrations in'Dunedin next March. Dr Baillie, who is an- ex-moderator of the Chureh of Scotland, is professor of theologv in the University of Edinburgh. The’ Presbyterian Church of South Africa will be represented by an elder. Mr E. M. Jarvis, of Capetown. Mr Jarvis was a member of First Church during the ministry of the Rev. Mr Gault. He visited Dunedin in 1940. Officers were elected as follows by the conference of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks this morning:—President, Mr F. H. Hudson (Levin): vice-presidents, Mr Edgar Ashcroft (Auckland), Mr H.
