PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD PREPARING FOR CENTENNIAL
Reporting to the Centennial Committee of tlie Synod of Otago and Southland last night, the Rev. A. M. Elliffc, said that the preparations for publishing the history of the Presbyterian Church of Otago and‘Southland, which Professor Collie was preparing, were well in hand, and it was intended to publish it in,-October. More than half the de luxe edition was already sold. Dr J D. Salmond presided. The Synod would hold its centennial meeting on the evening of March 18 1948. All the Presbyteries in New Zealand outside the Svnod area would 1)0 represented at this meeting. Dnriim Synod the Auld Lang Syne Club, conn prised of ministers trained in the Theological Hall in Dunedin, would celebrate its jubilee. The following programme of events was approved by the committee:— Sunday, March 14.—Services of thanksgiving and dedication will bo held in all Presbyterian Churches, and a youth rally in the Town Hall during the afternoon. Thursday March 18.—The Synod of <* n d Southland will be convened. I’nday, March 19.—A women's reeeption will be held in the afternoon at tlie Town Hal:. Saturday, March 20.—Dr .John Bail he, of. Scotland, 1 will give two lectures m the morning. A garden party will be held in the afternoon at Knox College, when it is expected that the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, will lay the foundation stone ol the new Theological Hall block. a Sunday, March 21.—A united Presbyterian service will be held in tlie Town Hall. Dr .John Baillie will be the speaker.
