NEW FELLOWSHIP AWARDED TO BRITISH WOMAN

To try to help the women of 'the United States, Britain, and Canada to understand each other’s problems will bo the task of Mrs Margaret Tempest-. Holmes,, an Englishwoman. Mrs Holmes has been selected as the first holder of the fellowship established recently by the British-American Associates, formed in 1931. She will tour all three countries, and will, work outside associations dealing with purely international affairs. She plans to visit country women’s organisations corresponding to the women’s institutes in Britain. She will get to know their work and tell them about their sister organisations in Britain. Her talks will follow three main themes: The part British women played in the women’s services in the war; the effect of the war on the postwar situation of women, both in their activities and in their status; women in voluntary organisations, and the lead they give to youth organisations^ The British-American Associates aim, through lectures, discussions, interchange visits of workers, and literature, to further' British-American understanding and co-operatiou towards world citizenship. NO FINANCIAL SUPPORT. Although the organisation has the goodwill of the United States Embassy and the British Foreign Office, it receives no financial support from any Government department or political party Its work is designed to reach those outside the limited memberships of Anglo-American organisations. This year the associates hope to bring into operation a scheme for interchange between America and Britain of young people in industry and commerce.

assistant to Air Chief Commandant Lady Welsh, director of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, and with her travelled more than 90,000 miles, visiting Egypt, Tndia, East Africa, Aden, Malta, Singapore, Greece, Germany, and France.
