STREET NUMBERS.
Sir, —As we are fast approaching our centennial celebrations, 1 suppose many arrangements are.being finalised. But what of our visitors who are looking for a number of a house in a certain street? Are any arrangements being made to simplify this problem? May I offer a simple method to convey this much-sought-after information? Have a board about 3ft by Ift, painted black,' with aluminium street name and the numbers “of houses in tljat block, erected on the corner of each intersection (as can be seen in Christchurch). When each ratepayer pays his rates he could be given a number plate with the number of his property (again I suggest black and aluminium). This plate should be a foot square, and it should be the duty of each ratepayer to. see that it is affixed to the centre of the gate and clearly visible from across the street. This would save a lot of inconvenience to everyone.— l am, etc., Taxi. July 14.
