Mr A. L. Matson Elected President of N.Z. Trotting Conference

Mr A. L. Matson, a well-known Christchurch, stock auctioneer, who has been elected president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, the highest office on the administrative side of the sport, has been closely connected with trotting for the past 18 years. He succeeds Mr H. F. Nicoll, who held office for 25 years. Mr Matson has been associated with trotting both as an owner and in various executive positions. When he was first elected to the committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club 10 years ago, he was the youngest man ever to sit on the committee. For eight years before that he was a steward of the club. After filling various offices, Mr Matson: was elected president of the club in 1940, and ,on relinquishing' that position he was appointed treasurer, an appointment he still holds. About the time he was elected the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s president, Mr Matson was appointed the club’s delegate, to the Trotting Conference, and held the office of treasurer. ’ .

Mr Matson has been responsible for several innovations, and his progressive ideas have assisted the trotting sport in making rapid progress. He played 1 a big part in introducing the photo-finish to New Zealand courses.
