July 13. In a gruelling five-set match, Eddie Moylan beat Gardner Mulloy, 6-4, 8-10, 6-3, 5-7, 8-6, to win the Springlace invitation tournament. Moylan, aged 24, who ranked ninth in the United States, caused a sensation when he beat Frank Parker, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, in the semi-final. Parker had won this tournament for nine successive years.
