ROCKS AHEAD FOR PRODUCERS IF FOOD SURPLUSES DEVELOP

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 26. ‘‘ It seems that the combined effort of all countries to overcome the world food crisis will ultimately convert the deficit into a surplus of food, and at this point there may be rodks ahead for our industry,” said Mr F._ Parsons, chairman of the National Dairy Federation, when addressing the fifty-third annual conference of the federation to-day. “"Distribution will probably be our greatest problem at that, point,” he said. “It is now that other markets should be explored in order to be ready to dispose of any sunplus milk products we may have. To get those markets and to retain ourposition, we must maintain a high quality in our produce.” The conference adopted a remit from the executive proposing that instead of any portion of farm or factory costs being charged against the Dairy, Industry Stabilisation Account, the full cost of commodities and services should be borne directly by the consumer and the price of dairy produce lifted accordingly. Remits adopted, included the following : “ That an investigation be made as to farmers’ liability m connection with accidents arising involving farmers’ cream stands.” “ That, in view of the fact that New Zealand manufacturers have been unable to. supply the industry’s own trading organisation with its full requirements of .gum boots for dairy farmers and factories, this conference urges the Government to make import licenses available to enable the National Dairy Association to procure these from overseas.” “ That war damage and earthquake insurance levies be. abolished.” “TJiat rural mail deliveries be operated on a six-day week basis where there is a normal delivery.”
