BOWLINS RULES ALTERED BY REITS TO ASSOCIATION MEETING

Several rules were altered as a result of remits carried at the session of the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association held yesterday. The president (Mr J. J. Davis) was in the chair. * Explaining a remit from the Central Otago Centre dealing with the testing of bowls, Dr R. E. Austin said that it was designed to save time lost in country districts through sending -bowls away to be tested, and to enable members to have their bowls tested when visiting a centre other than that allotted.

AVequest was received from the New Zealand Bowling Umpires’ Association asking Mr Davis to accept the position of patron. On the motion of Mr W, 0. Clark it was agreed to make a grant of £5 5s to the association in appreciation of the,services the umpires were giving. Mr -T. Lock, (Wellington) moved—- “ That no centre shall grant permission to any affiliated club to hold an open tournament (other than a oneday tournament) , for which entries are invited from members of clubs in other centres, without first obtaining permission from the executive of the New Zealand Bowling Association.”—Carried. After amendment a remit submitted by the Auckland'Centre was carried as follows: —“ That. tlie New Zealand Bowling Association be asked to consider ,an unmarked, mirror no smaller than nine inches by 12 inches as ‘ other approved apparatus ’ within the meaning of regulations 2 of the regulations governing umpires' and, markers, and if 'thought fit to make a ’ declaration in this" behalf.”

TKe meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the president, moved by Mr Lock. Mr. Davis briefly replied, thankthe secretary (Mr _R. S. M. Sinclair)' for his co-operation.
