SUICIDE ATTEMPT FAILS DRAMATIC SYDNEY INCIDENT
(Rec. U a.m.) SYDNEY, June 26, After arguing for half an hour with men who tried to pacify him, a man leaped 12ft from the roof of a building in St. Peter’s to-day in an attempt to hang himself. He had first climbed to the roof of a garage, attached one end of a length of rope to his neck and the other to a rafter, and announced his intention of jumping. Meanwhile the manager of the garage had telephoned the police while the employees argued with the man. Just before the police arrived he jumped. The rope snapped at a knot, and he fell heavily to the ground. The employees were administering first aid to the semi-conscious man when the police patrol car came into view. He sprang to his feet and raced off down the street at full speed, eluding all pursuers.
