WAIRATA TO SAIL AFTER DELAY OF THREE WEEKS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 26. At the request of the Minister of Labour (Mr A. MeLagan) a Disputes Committee sat to-day and disposed of the dispute which has delayed for three weeks the sailing of the Union Company’s intercolonial vessel Wairata for the Pacific Islands and Canada.* The Wairata was to have sailed from Wellington on June 7, but when a dispute over a demand for an additional messman could not be settled, the ship was taken out of commission. No agreement between the men and the employers could be reached, but to-day the matter was referred to a Disputes Committee under the chairmanship of Mr S. Ritchie. Conciliation Commissioner, who finally ruled that a crew orderly should be signed on to look after the mess room for the crew. Now that the dispute has been disposed of the company will sign on i+s crew again to-morrow. It is expected the Wairata will sail on Saturday for Vancouver via Auckland and Tahiti. She is to load general cargo and animals for Papeete.
