NAMES OF TAX DEFAULTERS PUBLISHED IN GAZETTE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 26. Schedules giving the names of all persons (including companies,) who, in respect of certain offences relating to taxation have beep convicted or »who have been charged a .peiial tax or a pedal charge from the date of the passing of the respective Act to March 31, 1947, are gazetted to-night. The first schedule, which relates to persons convicted, contains nine names and penal tax imposed ranges from £250 to £IO,OOO. The second schedule, which lists the persons who have not been prosecuted but have been charged a penal tax for evading, or attempting to evade payment of income tax or making default in performance of, any duty 5 imposed by the Land and Inconje Tax- Act ‘with intent to evade payment of income tax , contains 28 names with penalties varying from £25 to £3,000. The third schedule, which deals with persons who have-'been charged with the. penal charge under section ,12 of the Finance Act (No. 2), 1946, for failure to deduct social security charge and national security tax from wages. or other moneys or, having deducted any such, charge, have failed to account for it to the Commissioner of Taxes, contains three names, one penalty being £2OO and the others £SO each.
