SOUTHERN BUS SERVICE DISCUSSED BY RATEPAYERS

The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the . Caversham Ratepayers’ Association was presided over by Mr J. Wallace. Letters were received from the City Council dealing with transport, Alexandra street, and the steps in Dacre Court. On the question of transport, the council stated that it was sympathetic to the associaion’s claims, and the executive decided to write to the Transport Committee asking that the 5.3 p.m. C.P.O. bus to Waimea -Avenue, via Lookout Point, he rerouted to Corstorphine, via ' RiselaW road, and also asking for an extra bus at 10.20 p.m., during the present power restrictions, with the council ceasing to run the present Green Island service. The executive also asks that the present Sunday service be augmented. In .regard to Alexandra street, the council agreed with the executive thatit’was in an unsightly state, but until such time as power poles were available tile work was being held in abeyance. The Dacre Court steps would receive maintenance attention, ancl would be placed on this year’s estimates for renewal. Satisfaction was expressed that the approaches to the Ryehill street steps had been attended to, and the council was complimented on its promptness in this matter. It was also reported that attention had been given to the footway in the Main South road in the vicinity of Burnett street. It was decided to write to the chief postmaster regarding the Caversham Post Office. The executive granted the usual donation to the Plunket Society, with the request that the mobile memorial unit should serve the residents of Clyde Hill.
