BOWLING INTERESTS DISCUSSED BY DOMINION ASSOCIATION
Representative bowlers from centres throughout the Dominion gathered in the University Club rooms this morning for the annual meeting of the council of the New Zealand Bovvling Association. The president (Air T. Lock, of Wellington) was in the chair. On behalf of Otago bowlers, the pre-sident-elect (Air J. J. Davis, of Dunedin) extended a welcome to the visiting bowlers, and introduced the Alayor (Air D. C. j Welcoming the visitors to the city, the Alayor recalled his pleasant associations with bowling for more than 40 years. He congratulated the incoming president on his election, and looked forward to the tournament being held in Dunedin next year, which would be a very busy oue for the city. A STRENUOUS YEAR. (Mr Lock welcomed new members to the council, and thanked those who were retiring for their work. The year had been a strenuous one in Wellington, where the Dominion tournament was held. A profit of £340 was shown in the tournament account, but there had been a slight loss in the general account. Delegates might find it necessary, under these conditions, to consider raising the levy to meet the increased costs of conducting the association’s business. The motion adopting the annual report and balance sheet was seconded by Air Davis, who congratulated the Wellington executive on its conduct cf the Dominion tournament. OFFICE-BEARERS. It was announced that the following office-bearers had been elected:—President, Air J. J. Davis (Dunedin); vice-president, Mr M-. J. Walsh (Auckland); treasurer, Air J. Taylor (Christchurch), AV. O. Clarik and S. Devereux (Dunedin); Dr R. E. Austin (Central Otago-South Otago), Alessrs G. E. Piper (Alarlborougli-Nelson), R.' Wilson (North Otago-South Canterbury), D. AI. Scandrett (Southland), and T. Bowes (AVest Coast-Buller); * _ Mr iR. S. AI. Sinclair was reappointed secretary. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. It was agreed that the New Zealand championship tournament be commenced in Dunedin on January 12, the order of play to be singles first, followed by the pairs and fours in that order. After some discussion, it was decided to play the singles and pairs on the automatic two-life system. In the fours two games, a day are to be played for four days, the post-section play to be on the sudden death principle, with 25 ends to a game, instead of 21.
The meeting was continued this afternoon.
