DASTARDLY CRIME IN OUTER SUBURB OF SYDNEY
(Rec. 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 24. When a resident of the outer suburb of Bardwell Park heard a noise at the back of his house shortly before dawn this morning, he went to investigate-. He noticed a torch flashing in the bathroom and went towards it. The torch flashed in his eyes, artd the intruder shot him in the face at close range with what apparently was a shotgun. The resident, who Is a young man, is now in hospital in a serious condition, with portion of his face torn away. A daring theft occurred in the office of. an ice cream company at Manly about noon. An employee was asked to change a £5 note, and turned to open the' safe. As he did so a man demanded the money bag. When the employee shouted for help the thief closed with him and drew the ends of his necktie tightly round his throat until the employee lost, consciousness. The thief made good his escape with £6O in the cash bag, leaving tile unconscious employee to be found by his fellow workers.
