ARBITRATION COURT HEARS APPEALS ON CONFLICTING DECISIONS
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 24. Thd question whether carpenters employed on general maintenance work in factories should receive the travelling concessions awarded to general carpenters for suburban work was considered by Mr Justice Tyndall and Messrs W. C. Prime and A. L. Monteith in the Arbitration Court to-day. The case was an appeal against two conflicting magisterial decisions. A charge against the Gear Meat Company, Wellington, for an alleged failure to pay its carpenters travelling time was dismissed by Mr A. M. Doubling, S.M., but a conviction was entered and a penalty imposed by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., against the Whakntane Paper Mills for a breach which involved similar facts. After hearing legal argument, the court reserved its decision.
