NO GREAT RUSH TO TRADE WITH JAPAN EXPECTED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 24. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Nordmeyer, referring to the reopening of private trade with Japan from August lo„ said to-day that he could add little to the Press Association message from Washington dated June 9, except that New Zealand had been allotted a quota of six business men who would be permitted to enter Japan after August 15 to reestablish trade.- Service representatives of banking, shipping, and insurance companies wishing to enter Japan could, however, apply immediately without limitation. Applications to enter Japan, he said, required Government sponsorship, and every effort was being made within the small limits of the quota to provide adequately for all interested parties in New Zealand. The Minister said it was not expected tiiat there would be many applications for business men to go to Japan, as it was likely that there would be only a limited Tange of goods available, and many firms Would doubtless be content to endeavour to purchase goods from Japan otherwise than by establishing direct representation there. The procedure for purchasing goods from Japan, would not be as simple as in normal markets.
