BRITAIN WILL RECEIVE COAL ALLOCATION FROM THE UNITED STATES

(Rec. 11.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 23. Britain will receive approximately 140,000 tons of coal from the United States in July, provided that there are no coal strikes. Mr Truman’s personal Commissioner in charge of Relief and Reconstruction, Captain Granville Conway, disclosed today that this will be the first instalment of a 600,000-ton allocation from America. It is not known at what rate Britain will pay for the coal, but it is known that. France is paying about 20 dollars a ton. including freight. The total cost to Britain is believed likely to be not less than 2,800,000 dollars.
