JOY ROSA HAS DEVELOPED INTO HIGH CLASS HANDICAPPER

(Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. .Joy Rosa has developed into a highclass handicap performer, and has now won on all varieties of going. In all her races she has done her nest work at the right end, after. being, in most cases, well out of prominence over the early and middle stages. She will be an interesting visitor to the forthcoming meetings at Riecarton. Pensacola made a pleasing return to form by his win at Ashburton. He did not appear to be troubled by the going, but was showing signs of weakening nearing the end. He will next attract attention at the Wellington meeting. This was Pensacola’s first win since lie beat Golden Souvenir in the Harcourt Stakes at Trentlmm in 1915. Wee Mac, winner of flic Novice Stakes at Ashburton, is a four-year-old gelding by A Iran zap 'by Balboa from Kokowai, by All Red from Kea, by Captain Webb, and is trained at Waslidyke by F. Trilford. He lias raced very consistently during the season, and now that lie lias entered the winning list lie promises to carry on. He is due to race at Greymouth next Saturday. Lord Broiefort Unlucky. Lord Broiefort was well supported in Saturday’s hurdle race at Ashburton, but no line could be obtained as to his form, as he was stopped in the mess-np at the first fence and took no further part in the race.' He is to be taken to Greymouth bv Triiford, who will also have Verdant and Lost Art in his team. The trip is being made to assist in their preparation for the more important races ahead, but at the same time all are capable of winning races on the day. Sphere was another having his first hurdle race this winter to meet trouble at the first fence, at which Kosciusko fell, and Sphere and Bubble fell over him. Going Affected Perillus Belle.

Perillus Belle was well placed turning for home in the maiden event, but appeared to be anchored by the heavy going in the straight and weakened into a poor fourth placing. All Hurry was given a race in the heavy going on Saturday in view of his proposed visit to Trentham next month. He was prominent in behind the leading bunch a furlong from home, but could not improve. A decision regarding his trip will be delayed, but in all probability he will accompany Wild Note north.

Deep Harmony was started im the mile and a-quarter race on Saturday in preference to his seven-furlong engagement and was in keen demand, but he failed to handle the conditions.

.Turiste’s win at Ashburton was long overdue. She was trained up to a few months ago at Riecarton, hut failed so often that she was sent back to her North Canterbury owner, who trains her himself at Amberley. Saturday’s was her first race since, and although she won she is never likely to reach good ela=s Montello d’Oro was given his first race this season in the hack sprint at Ashburton and shaped well by always being one of the leaders and being bpaten in the last stride bv Jnris+e. He is to resume hurdle racing forthwith and, taking a lino through his effort on Saturday and his eood schooling in recent weeks, he will be a useful stake earner for V. Lee’s stable.

Sanskrit’s Last Race. Sanskrit bad her last race at Ashburton and is to do stud duty next season. She made a game attempt m the Maronan Handicap and had Pensacola doing his best to beat her by a length. She will probably be mated with the Oamatu horse, Finis. Boolamskee made his first appearance for some time in the open sprint at Ashburton. He paraded in more robust order than when previously in commission, and will again be an interesting candidate for jumping races in the next few months./ Boolamskee is still owned by Mr F. C. Christie and is being trained at Orari by L. H. Pratt.

Beeclnvood, third in* the Novice Stakes, is now owned by his trainer, 11. P. Register, who acquired him from Mr D. Grant. He is a four-year-old by Lang Bian and will probably be tried as a hurdler later in the year.
