ALL BLACK TOURISTS
FINAL TRIALS TO-MORROW NORTH ISLAND SELECTIONS (P.A.) PALMERSTON N. ; May 15. The North Island Rugby trials were played here to-day under fair conditions, and the New Zealand selectors, Messrs A. McDonald, N. A. McKenzie, and H. S. Strang, announced the following 23 players to take part in the final All Black trials at Wellington on Saturday:— Backs.—lt. Scott (Auckland), _H. Johns (Taranaki), D. Mason. Wellington), P. McKay (Auckland), J. McLean (King Country), J. Smith, P. Smith (North Auckland), L. Deas, F. Allen, P. Tetzlaff (Auckland),- B. Cough (Wairarapa), V. Bevan Wellington). Forwards.—E. Catley, R. Arnold (AVaikato), M. McHugh, G. Simpson, N. Thornton (Auckland), R. White, R. Dalton, J. Wills (AA 7 ellington), Jim Brownlie, H. Fraser, J. McCormick ■ (Hawke’s Bay).' The selectors stated that, in addition to the 23 players chosen for the final trial, all other players who had taken part in the island trials would be given full consideration before the final selection of the All Black team was made. A crowd Estimated at between 7,000 and 8,000 watched the trial match, which produced patchy football interspersed with odd intervals of brilliant play. The hacks had ample opportunity of showing their ability, and some very promising material was revealed.
