BENGAL'S FOOD POSITION

FAMINE NOT ANTICIPATED (Rec. 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 3. Although food will probably be rationed soon in all the large towns in West Bengal, the authorities controlling the storage and distribution of food dp not expect a famine to any degree, says ' The Times ' Calcutta correspondent. • The Government of Bengal is holding a stock of over 300,000 tons of rice, and increasing its reserves. After heavy rain during the last months of last year the crops are .better than expected. They are very good in the north and east, but poor in eome areas of Central Bengal. The Government plans wide extension of rationing in order to achieve greater control of supplies. There will possibly be modified rationing even in the villages.
