"HUNGER MARCH" IN LUCKNOW
NEW DELHI, February 3. Fifty thousand persons in Lucknow made a " hunger march. " through the main streets and held a demonstration in front of the Government in protest against the reduction in the wheat ration. The United Provinces Government on January. 31 ordered a reduction in the wheat ration asnd increased the s rice ration until the arrival of the new wheat crop. The demonstrators, all members of political parties, carried flags and shouted slogans such as'" Down with rationing," " Hindus and Moslems united." Some carried wheat cakes cut in half, symbolic of the reduced ration. _ A resolution was passed declaring—- " A-national and popular Government alone could lay down an effective policy and provide food and other necessities for the Indian people."
