NEW ZEALAND A BYE MELBOURNE, February 3. The draw for the Davis Cup lawn tennis contest was made from the famous cup itself by Sir John Latham, Chief Justice of Australia. Twenty challenges were received, 15 in the European zone, and four in the North American, and one (New Zealand) in the Pacific. The draw resulted : European Zone.—Spain v. Switzerland, Great Britain v. France, CzechoSlovakia v. Turkey, Yugoslavia r. Egypt, Denmark v. Cfflna, Belgium v. Monaco, Sweden v. Netherlands, Ireland a bye. . American *Zone.—Mexico v. Canada, Philippines v. United! States. Pacific Zone.—New Zealand! a bye. New Zealand will automatically play the winner of the North American zone. The tentative dates for the Davis Cup final in Melbourne are December 25, 26. and 28
