OH! FOR A BEVIN

COUNTERBLAST TO COMMUNISM AUSTRALIA LACKS LEADER (Rec. 11.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, February 4. The Federal Labour Government feared the Communists, but sadly lacked an Ernest Bevin, said the Leader of the Federal Opposition, Mr Menzies. He praised Mr Bevin for his attack on Russian propaganda and Communism. " ■ . " His fighting speech will get warm cheers in Australia," Mr Menzies went on. " His reminder that Communist propaganda is the same the world over is particularly telling. Australians have long known the Communists to be anti-British, and threfore antiAustralian. ' Communism succeeds only with those people who see virtues in every country but their own, and beauties in every system of. government under which they do not have to live. I hope some Australian voice will travel far and fast enough to let Mr Bevin and the British people know that Australia is proud of what they are doing in Europe."
