WORLD TITLE

DEFENDER KNOCKED OUT NEW YORK, February 2. In the first post-war title bout, Marty Servo (lOst 31b) won the world's welter-weight championship, knocking out Freddie Cochrane (lOst 51b) in the fourth round of a scheduled 15-round bout at Madison* Square Garden. Servo carried the fight to Cochrane from the start. He caught the defender in a corner near the end of the fourth round and beat him to the floor with a barrage of blows after dazing him with a left-hander. It was Cochrane's first defence of the title, which he won from Fritzier Zivide in July, 1941. Servo will defend the title on May 24 against Ray Robinson, who has beaten Servo twice.
