THE PROMISED LAND
JEWISH EXODUS TO PALESTINE MORGAN CONTROVERSY CONTINUES LONDON, January 6. Dr Levenburg, chairman of the Jewish Socialist Tarty, speaking at the London conference of the Jewish National'Fund, commented _ on General Morgan’s remarks. He said: “ Let the world face the fact that the Jewish people in Europe are determined to go to the Promised Land. If the' world calls this a conspiracy, we say, 1 Very well, we are part of this conspiracy.’ The time has come for the world to recognise this and to appreciate the reasons for the exodus from the graveyards and cemeteries of Poland and other European countries.’’ (Reuter’s Jerusalem correspondent says the Hebrew and Arab Press in Palestine has focused attention on the Morgan case. The Jewish daily, ‘ Haaretz,’ said: “ General Morgan’s statement is nonsensical and reminiscent of the spirit we knew at the time of the exolus from Egypt.” The - Arab . daily, ‘ Falastin,’ said: “ General Morgan is one of the persons least likely to make false propaganda. His disclosure fell like a thunderbolt and exposed the Zionists before the world.” Headquarters of Unrra informed the Press Association that General Morgan had been recalled to London, and would not be returning to Germany._ , Several British and American officers harshly condemned Unrra’s announcement that General Morgan has been asked tt> resign, says the Frankfurt correspondent of the Associated Press. They Expressed the opinion that General Morgan is being “crucified for simply expressing his opinion, whether it was right or wrong.” General Morgan is still standing by his earlier blunt refusal to resign. The correspondent at Washington of the New York ‘ Herald-Tribune ’ says State Department officials commented that at least some of the statements by General Morgan on Jewish migration from Poland conformed with information in the possession of the United States Government. Obviously there could not be such a movement as was occurring at present without the Polish Government’s issue of travel permits, even transportation assistance. The officials added that the Polish Government provided. a number of official and unofficial indications that it was encouraging Jewish migration.
