LASKI GIVES THE LAW
TIPS ON LABOUR-5 FOREIGN POLICY MUST PROTECT CHINA FROM " SEMIFASCIST RIGHT WING " (Rec. ILIS a.m.).. LONDON, Aug. 17. " The British- Labour Government will, if necessary, bring economic pressure to bear on Spain in order to allow Spain to realise political unity and for the Republican forces in the" Coalition Government to organise ,an election of Parliament," said Professor Laski in an interview with the weekly newspaper ' La Tribune Economique,' quoted by Renter's Paris correspondent. •" It is our intention to give the new Italy, if it is democratic, full assistance in the economic field, and all our help in matters, of foreign policy." He said: "We will- give France all our help and friendship. I foresee a mixed Franco-British committee which would allow discussions interesting to both countries." Professor Laski said the Labour Party counted on sending a delegation to Russia with a mission to propose full political ■ and economic unity of the working classes, but this implied the disappearance of separate secret organisations within the workers' parties.
He hoped British relations with the United States would continue under the sign of friendship, which would largely depend on the attitude of American finance towards the Socialist experiment in Britain. . . ; Defining the Labour Party's attitude to Germany, he said it would be based on the Potsdam decision <jnd on tho, gradual restoration of German democracy.
He added that the problem was roughly the same for Japan. "We must destroy the economic and mystic foundations of Japanese.militarism; we must prevent the birth in the Far East of an economic, strategic imperialism to the advantage 'of any single Power. The Chinese have the-right'to be masters' of their own home.' must also protect the people against the semi-Fascist forces of-the Chinese right wing."
