CEASE FIRE IN BURMA
JAP. SURRENDER STILL AWAITED TENSE STILLNESS ALONG WHOLE FRONT (Reo. 8 a.m.) LONDON, August 17. No local surrender has yet been negotiated in Burma. The Japanese commanders are keeping well behind their own lines, reports Reuter's correspondent from advanced headquarters. Rangoon's plans to receive between 50,000 and 60,000 Japanese have been completed, but although the cease fire sounded 48 hours ago there is still a tense stillness all along the front.
