MANCHESTER UNITY
The half-yearly past officers' and Purple Degree meeting was • formally opened by the Prov. G.M., Bro. j". W. A. RoDerts, who deputed Prov. Sec'. Bro. A. Sligo to control proceedings in conferring the minor degrees upon eligible brethren. He had. as deputymaster P.P.G.M. Bro. Geoff. Clark, while P.G. Bro. T. Henderson and P.P.G.M. Bro, H. Russell officiated as P.M. and E.S. respectively. For th'e Purple Degree Bro. Russell occupied the master's chair, with Bro. Clark as deputy. Bro. Sligo delivered the lecture, while P.P.G.iM. Bro. E. Longworth conducted the candidates and delivered the exhortation. Prov. ■Treas. Bro. K. L. Hope acted as secretary thoughout. .. Loyal Valley's sixty-second birthday was celebrated on Monday evening." X.G. Bro MeFarlane welcomed the guests, comprising visitors from all city and suburban lodges, the Prov. Deputy G.M.. Bro. F. Austin, and two members of Loyal Xaseby. Some interesting incidents in connection with the lodge's activities were narrated bvP.P.G.M. Bro. .1. Robson, the oldest member present. An interesting lettpr from P.G. Bro. Fred, Millier, the lodge's sole surviving original member, now in his eighty-third year. The meeting passed d resolution of appreciation of Bro. Millier's long and faithful service. This was the first anniversary meeting he had missed in the-62 years. Visitors were entertained socially, and prizes were won by Sisters Mowat, Smith, and Longworth and Bros. Watson and McAllan
Per. Sec. Bro ; J. Lunam and Treas. Bro. A. Rennie entertained fellowmembers in the Loyal Caversham lodge room. Cards were played and prizes awarded to Bros. Williamson and Grave'. Notable visitors were Bros. Val. Parker and Dick Torrance, prisoners of war recently repatriated. The lodge room of Loyal Hand and Heart was the venue of the interlodge pairs bowling contest, all eight city lodges being represented. Proceedings in the contest were ablv controlled bv P.P.G.M. Bro. E. Longworth. Some splendid games were witnessed, close finishes being the order of the evening. The final was contested by Loyal Princess Mary and Centenary pairs. Sisters Brooks and McAllan having a good win.
