CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
EXECUTIVE MEETING The weekly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce was ueld yesterday. Pleasure was expressed that since the last meeting of the executive traffic .control had been resumed at the corner of Cumberland and High streets in addition to the control "at the hiter-\ section of Cumberland and Stuart streets. , The secretary reported that a number of replies had been received from sporting clubs in response to the circular sent out from the chamber and junior chambers suggesting .that all former' members of clubs should be welcomed back by their former sporting or otheY clubs. Advice was received from the Associated Chambers that they had referred to the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, a letter from the Dunedin Chamber dealing with the matter of subsidies presumed to be paid from War Expenses Account. Advice on this matter is awaited from tho Minister. It was decided to ask members of Parliament throughout Otago to support the request, to the Government that. Invercargill be adopted as th« southern terminal for overseas air services.
In response to a circular from . th« Associated Chambers of Commerce on the question of the removal of regulations it was decided to recommend that the Government be asked to revoke all war-time regulations and that the question, of those regulations still required should be the subject of re ; enactment.
A reply dated August 7 from the town clerk, Mr R. Johnston, on the Question of augmentation of the city water supply mentioned that it was uot at present possible to supply the chamber with information whether this augmentation applied both to the How of water into the various reservoirs and to the storage capacities of such reservoirs and. when the augmentation, would be completed and the additional volume of water that would be received. With reference to a letter from the chamber regardiug the Waitati-Sawyers Bay tunnel priority oh the list of major schemes to receive -early attention by the Ministry of Works, ih'e Otago Regional Planning Council advised that the essentiality of the tunnel and the electrification proposals had been included in the list of work? to be referred to the council by tin* organisation for National Development in Wellington. The letter further stated that a preliminary examination of this matter had been made.
