SELWYN COLLEGE

EXTENSIONS PROPOSED * Extensions estimated to cost £25,000 are to be erected shortly to Selwyn College, which is one of the oldest student residential colleges in Dunedin. Besides containing the college common room and library, the new building will acommodate 32 students in single rooms. A new wing will be built on laiid adjacent to the present buildings, with an entrance inside the present college grounds, and it is hoped that ultimately extensions will form a quadrangle similar to those at English university colleges. An design, has been prepared by the architect, Mr H. McDowell Smith. The land for the new building was recently bought by the Selwyn College Board. The trustees, of the estate of Sir Percy Sargood have made a gift of £5.000 towards the cost of the building, and other donations, totalling £I,OOO have been received from past and present students and supporters. An appeal for the additional funds necessary will be launched shortly.
