MOTOR CAR IMPORTS
SLACKENING OF BAN (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 27. Motor importers in New Zealand are now permitted licenses for the import of unassembled cars for the 1946 licensing period up to 75 per cent, of the total value of the assembled aid unassembled cars imported fronf the United Kingdom in 1938. Full information as to the availability of cars for export to New Zealand and their new,prices in the United Kingdom is not available in the Dominion. Until information about.prices is received it is riot known how many new motor cars the relaxation of the restrictions will make available, but, while keeping in mind the fact that increases in the cost of 'labour, raw materials, and freight must have_ increased the price in the United Kingdom, some guide may be gained from the fact that the imports of British cars in 1938- totalled 16.676. The amount of imports is governed by value and not by numbers. Though the licenses refer to un- . assembled cars, a concession has been made to assist the motor trade withsamples to allow new built-up cars to., be imported.
