GRAND. John Steinbeck's ' Lifeboat,' brought to the screen by Alfred Hitchcock, commenced a season at the Grand yesterday. The story, a sensational saga of six men and two women adntt in an open boat in mid-Atlantic —survivors of boats torpedoed by an enemy U-boat—is acclaimed as one of the 'greatest dramas of the screen, lallulah Bankhead is starred as a beautiful newspaper correspondent, and featured plavers are William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson. John Hodiak, Henry Hull, Heather Angel, Hume Cronyn, and Canada Lee. A comedy film, ' A-Haunting We Will Go,' with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as the principals, is the associate feature. MAYFAIR. ' Misison to Moscow,' Warner Bros.' dramatic film, based upon the book by a. former Ambassador to Russia, Mr Joseph E. Davies, has pride of place in the new bil shown at the Mayfair yesterday. The story, starring Walter Huston and Ann Harding, is an actual account of the momentous events preceding the second global war, viewed through the eyes of a typical American and his family, and depicts the greatness of our Russian allv, whose armies checked the Nazi blitz. The largo and talented supporting cast is headed by George Tobias, Oscar Homolka, Gene Lockhart, and Helmut Dantine. The supporting film is a Western comedy, ' Dudes Are Pretty People,' starring Jimmy Rogers and Noah Beery, jun.
