CONTROL OF GERMANY
LONG OCCUPATION NECESSARY WAR POTENTIAL STILL DANGEROUS _ WASHINGTON, June 26. The air blitz was the major factor in Germany's defeat, but it did not destroy the Reich's .industrial capacity to prepare for a third world war, the Foreign Economic Administration administrator, Mr Leo Crowley, told the Senate Military Affairs Committee. Mr Crowley added that Germany, if left alone now, would be better prepared for another war in five years than she was in 1939. The Allies, therefore, must bo prepared for a long occupation of the Reich and must pursue a programme of rigid economic and industrial disarmament. If V.E.-Day had come six months later, the Reich would have been able to hit New York with bombs and able to send jet-pro-pelled planes against "Washington. Senator H. M. Kijgore, who recently returned from Europe, said he was told by an outstanding military authority that German fighter planes which were about to roil off the assembly linrss would have given them unquestioned air control of the Western Front had the Rhine defences held out 90 days longer.
